Esugen’s life paintings on paper and MDF are rooted in her day to day relationship towards her childhood, friends and family. They are humble but physical reminders of the sensitivity and vulnerability of ones inner world.
2024 | Sami-pouch and Jester Doll | Hollow Years
Still life paintings of textile sami-pouch and doll. Sami-pouches are culturally known to hold sagai bones (шагай) for games and oracles whilst the second painting takes thread from a family ornament of a jester doll.


2026 | Fire Horse | Hollow Years
Still life paintings of oragami fire horses exploring fold, intention, mind and heart connection, finding that a square holds the structures of the universe. Horses being the Mongolian symbol of freedom, the artist sees the horse as a paternal figure of resistance and presistence.

2026 | Camel | Hollow Years
The imagined space explores controlled happiness whilst the Mongolian two-humped camel symbolises woman’s fat and perseverance in face of living between two worlds.

2024 | The domestic | Grandmother’s Gifts
Esugen’s grandmother has introduced her to textiles and the world of art so these life paintings of her textiles serve as a gift of gratitude. These display a boro-sashiko tote bag and a potrait of her sleeping grandmother wrapped by her own quilt jacket she made.
