Murals

Esugen’s series oil on canvas murals are painted from memory and impulse exploring sexuality, love, pain and trauma as a gateway to deeper truths about existential struggles, moral ambiguities, and the complexities of the human psyche through narrative story. Baimiao (白描) has been an important underlying philosophy as she imagines to wield the brush as if it is water. With the sensitivity and eloquence of line, she embraces qing (清) – like water that flows still but can erupt when uncontained. This is the movement which tracks her paintings. Through colour fields split by lines and shapes to construct and explore her own internal chambers of femininity and peace.
